Baby Dedication--It was our joy to witness the dedication of two of Graces families. Gabrielle Wooten, daughter of Andy & Rachel Wooten and Pierce, Shakira and Morgan Denlinger, children of Cameron & Kyrston Denlinger.

We will now be recording these on a regular basis. These testimonies are meant to be exalting to Christ and His work in us as believers. "Revealed" - Youth Fall Retreat (November 13-15)
There will be an informational meeting this Wednesday @ 6:00 PM for the Revealed Retreat! All teens going and at least one parent are encouraged to attend. If you are unable to make it, please contact Matt ( matt@greenvillegrace.org) or contact the church office (547-0065)

Purchase your Thanksgiving dessert or baked good at the Women’s Ministry Baker’s Auction next Sunday, November 15, 6pm at Grace. If you have a baked good you specialize in, we need your help! Please donate your item to be auctioned off by signing-up in the narthex. Then bring your goodie Sunday, November 15 during 1st or 2nd service in a disposable container, ready to be auctioned away that evening. Proceeds will go to help cover the cost of the Women’s Ministry childcare expenses that can total $1680 per year.

Coffee Bar Help--The coffee bar ministry has an opening. If you would be interested in helping about once a month on Sunday mornings, or would like to be on a call list to help when needed, please contact Dane Ganger.

3rd Quarter 09 GGB Finance Update: As of 3rd Quarter 2009, income is 4% under budget. Through careful stewardship, planned expenditures have been reduced or eliminated to a level of 6% below budget. YTD September 30, 2009 actual giving is $240,150 and expenses are $232,908. The balance outstanding on the building mortgage is $486,489. We have retired $42,548 of principal in 2009. The building mortgage was refinanced in October 2009 with a scheduled payoff in October 2024. However if we continue making the current payment, the projected payoff is in September 2017. If anyone has any questions and/or comments, please feel free to forward those to the office or speak to any of the following members of the finance team: Monty Stump, Jon Hein, Dennis Light, Linda Fourman or Katie McKee.

This opportunity is available to anyone at Greenville Grace, all you need is a recommendation letter from us and training from Bible Fellowship in the "Safe and Secure program" (a video course that can be done privately). Sharing Grace 4th Annual Fall Benefit--Come join us on Saturday, September 19. The day starts with a Kiddie Tractor Pull, and ends with a Spaghetti Dinner that night. Come help us raise support for the St Clair Family, missionaries to Mexico. This is a fun day of activities for the whole family. HELP, WE'RE A LITTLE CROWDED! Have you noticed that empty seats are a little hard to come by in second service? There are some things you can do to help us make room:

1. Join us for first service. Our 9:00AM service is the same as our 10:15AM service. If you do not need to take advantage of our Children's Church ministry (4 years - 4th grade), would you consider joining us for the first service?

2. Sit toward the middle of a row. Everyone feels self-conscious when you are walking in later, let alone if a chair is hard to come by. If available seats are visible on the aisles, it helps everyone feel more comfortable. No need to save empty seats between you and the family beside you...we're here to worship together!

3. Share a seat with your kid. Since the children leave for Children's Church during the sermon, most of their time with you in the service is spent standing. Could you share a seat with them and simply have them stand in front of you or even on the seat with you?

4. Pray about church planting / church satellite options. Perhaps God desires we plant a church with a significant number of our current people? Will you join us in praying for God's wisdom in regard to future plants? Will you pray that God would raise up church planters from Grace? Would you pray, that if His will, God would move your heart to participate in a church plant?

Parents Of Three Year Olds & Younger--Because we want you to be able to enjoy and focus during our worship service, we strongly encourage you to take advantage of our nursery ministry. Nursery workers will be delighted to help care for your little one, and even provide a pager for you in case your assistance is needed. Your child will be well cared for while you (and those seated around you) will be able to focus on the service.

2nd Quarter 2009 GGB Finance Update: The Pastors/Elders and Finance Team in attempt to keep the body informed will on a quarterly basis report key aspects of the finances. As of 2nd Quarter 2009, within the General Fund, the giving has kept pace with our expenses. YTD June 30, 2009 actual giving was $154,872 and the expenses were $156,700. The balance outstanding on the building mortgage as of June 30th is $499,774. The initial amount of the loan in October 2004 was $750,000. Since then we have retired $250,226 in principal which includes $29,264 in principal retirement for 2009. If anyone has any questions and/or comment, please feel free to forward those to the office or speak to any of the following members of the finance team: Monty Stump, Jon Hein, Dennis Light, Linda Fourman or Katie McKee.

It is our joy to announce that Jason Bradshaw, Marshall Gipe and Matt Strader have been added to our team of elders! We are thankful for their patience during this intense and lengthy process. We were thrilled with overwhelming affirmations of each man’s character and ministry fruit we received from the Body. We especially appreciated those who were willing to voice concern regarding our elder leadership structure and the influence several young elders may create. We want you to know we gave considerable attention to these concerns and believe the discussion has strengthened us as a team. We will be addressing some of these specific issues on July 19th, as we address God’s wisdom in elder leadership.

SUMMER PLANS: Somewhere in time, summer used to represent relaxation and taking a break. Sure, the kids are out of school and you may have a vacation (or two) planned and yes, there's the Great Darke County Fair--but often these things can actually make our schedules busier.
As elders, we are praying that you do not take a "vacation" on your walk with the Lord. The following are some ways we encourage you to continue to grow during the summer months:
1) STRIVE TO JOIN US ON SUNDAYS--Weeks can easily get away. One week you're out of town. The next week, you had a long Saturday night. And then the next just seems like the perfect week to hit the lake. Before long, you've missed several weeks (and been missed) and your walk will be effected. Sure, we want you to feel the freedom to "get away," but also encourage you to consider how we may stimulate one another toward love and good deeds.

2) STUDY WITH OUR SUMMER SERMON SERIES--Yes, LIFEGroups are suspended for the summer. However, we still want you to be in the Word throughout the week. We've compiled a book, "His Foolish Wisdom," that we would love for every person to go through with us. We believe it will help keep you in the Word, help you be prepared for Sundays, and help strengthen Greenville Grace.

3) SIGN UP FOR A SUNDAY EVENING CLASS--Our adult Sunday School can only include one class during the school year (due to classroom space limitations), so we try to take advantage of smaller, more interactive classes during the summer. Sign up to join us for one of our "summer studies" and grow in a particular area of faith. (see insert for more information.)

4) SERVE WITH VBS--Join us in ministering to our kids and other kids in the community during VBS. There are a number of ways you can serve (even if you can't all week). See Tammy Detrich for more details.

5) RUTH/ROMANS--Ok, so we couldn't figure out how to start this one with an "s." (We know you love alliteration!) Men, you always have an open invitation to join us for our men's studies on Monday nights and Saturday mornings. Ladies, if you are still interested (and if you beg), I'm sure you could still be included in the women's study of Ruth.

We truly pray that you will not only find the summer change of pace to be refreshing, but that it will also give you an opportunity to grow in your love and devotion to Christ!

V.B.S.--This Week June 14-18

YOUTH CAR WASH!!!
We will be having a Youth Car Wash this Saturday (June 20th) from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM @ Mike Fourman's Dentist Office (138 Shawnee Street). This is a youth fundraiser for our summer missions trip to inner-city Indianapolis. Please come and have your car washed, and tell a friend about it too! All donations will go towards sponsoring teens for the trip!

WOMEN’S SUMMER STUDY--Wednesday at 9:30 (am study) and Thursday, at 6:30 (pm study).

MEN’S TRAINING--This Monday night will be cancelled in light of VBS. Our next meeting will be June 29 at 7:00 pm where we will study Rom. 4:1-15.

MEN’S FELLOWSHIP--Men come join us this Saturday morning at 7am for our Men's Fellowship breakfast.

SHAKE WELCOME NIGHT--For all incoming 7th graders and their parents Wednesday, June 24th @ 6pm. Food will be provided.

DR Update

19 May 2009. Statesville, NC is here again this year and Doctor Sam is back. There are 31 in the group, all senior class teenagers; they graduate next week. We also have two new male interns, Kevin and Brendt. We went to an unnamed village on the North side of Santo Domingo. It started out raining all morning and we traversed some pretty bad roads up and down hills. It was so bad that we had to unload the medical supplies from the trailer, haul them up the hill on foot, then disconnect the trailer from the bus, drive the bus up the slippery hill and then drag and push the trailer by rope to the top of the hill on the muddy road.
The village was rather remote; most of the villagers have no work and Jackie comes every night from her orphanage to feed them a meal. It took us 3 hours to arrive. The group set up and gave a puppet show and gospel presentation and then we started the clinic around. 11:30. The teens played with the kids and we saw around 90 people in clinic as well as run an eye glass station. It turned out that it did not rain the rest of the afternoon and I got sunburned through the clouds. The drive home was through rush hour traffic when we reached town.

20 May 2009. The team went to Los Llanos, which is over an hour north of SCORE. We had been here in February with the Fourman group for the first time; this time the pastor was prepared. He had a list of those to be seen in the morning clinic and a big blue tarp erected in front of the church for protection from the sun; in the afternoon it was cloudy with a little shower. The grounds were wet from previous days rains and a little muddy.
The group gave the gospel message both morning and afternoon along with a puppet show. They conducted a carnival and we had a big crowd at the church all day. They played recorded music, played games, did face painting, gave out candy, had a clown, made balloon figures, made yarn bracelets, painted finger nails, passed out gospel materials, had all kinds of balls to play with and handed out home-made back packs with everyone wanted.
In clinic the group saw over 100 people. It was hot, stifling and humid inside the tin roofed church; we ran some fans off the generator to help a little. It was a good tiring day. The kids did a great job.

CASTINE CHURCH OF THE BRETHREN is planning a trip September 18-20, 2009 to Explorations in Antiquity in LaGrange, Ga.

The Explorations in Antiquity Center opened in June, 2006, with the goal to help people understand the Bible and the ancient world in its historical and cultural context. They do this by providing exact replicas of ancient life settings coupled with cutting-edge teaching based on the most up-to-date evidence and information in the fields of archaeology and biblical scholarship.

The trip to the center will include a scripture garden walk, biblical meal, time tunnel tour, and shabath meal. The return trip home on Sunday will include a stop at First Baptist Church in Atlanta, where Dr. Charles Stanley is senior pastor.

Blessed Beyond Measure...

I shared the following over at my blog, but wanted to make sure as many in our church as possible knew the encouragement they are to me (and to all our pastors/elders):

I don't deserve to be a child of God. I do not deserve to be entrusted with the gospel message. I do not deserve the privilege of being an undershepherd. And I do not deserve to be born and live to see this time.

John MacArthur recently shared why he is encouraged:

[Rick Holland] What encourages you most about the future of exposition, and what discourages you the most as you look at the up and coming generation?

[John MacArthur] Well...I have to tell you that I am greatly encouraged. You know, we opened "the vault" at Grace to You [all mp3's are now free]. That was ridiculous.

[RH] What were the statistics of the first weekend or month...

[JM] Listen, just to put it into perspective, my thought was...we had a $3 deal where you could download a sermon on mp3...$3. We did four thousand a month. So that's $12,000 a month, $144,000 a year. We kind of thought, if people want it, they'll pay for it, and it will have value to them. And then we finally realized, people are getting stuff for free, they're getting bad stuff free. They're getting almost everything free. Why don't we just make it all free? It went from 4,000 a month [downloads], so far, we're in about the fourth month, to a million a month.

So, the great conclusion is, people preach what's free! That's scary. So if that's what they are going to preach, we got to get it to them free. [on the audio, these sentences are clearly tongue in cheek]

No, but it has removed the barriers. So my response: I literally, in one month went from wondering if anybody cared about Bible exposition, to being absolutely thrilled about how many people must be doing biblical exposition...because there is no other reason to be downloading that stuff. It's stunning! Al Mohler and I were talking about it yesterday, the young generation is coming up literally owning reformed theology and Bible exposition. I promise you, that is what is happening to the young generation. These older ministers and pastors who aren't into Bible exposition and aren't into sound reformed theology are not capturing the young generation. They are not capturing them.

MacArthur then went on to explain that the older he gets, the younger his congregation gets.

I see what MacArthur is saying, but I also see more. I must say that this is one other reason why I believe I am blessed beyond measure to pastor at Greenville Grace. I love our people. It has been a thrill to see younger generations respond to the church's ministry [we recently added a third nursery, and it really isn't enough!], but God has given us this opportunity without sacrificing the "older generations" (wince...who really wants to be labeled like that?).

I preached a heavy, hard sermon this week (you really have no other choice when God is killing people), but did not have to fear whether the congregation would listen and receive it. I do not face pressure that the church does not want to hear the Word. I told someone this week, "It's so nice to know I am at a church that would get rid of me if I chose NOT to preach the Word."

I love you all, and don't want any of us to take it lightly. He is the One who causes us to "hunger and thirst for righteousness." We have not done that work on our own. He's really doing an amazing thing here at Grace. But not just at Grace, but around the globe as well!

I truly do not deserve to shepherd at a church where people of all generations crave the Word of God.

SHAUN & JENNIFER SACHS--It is our joy to welcome Shaun and Jennifer Sachs as members of Greenville Grace. Shaun and Jennifer recently publicly testified to their faith in Christ through water baptism. They have taken the "Welcome to Grace" class, understanding the nature of the commitment of church membership, and want the family at Grace to know their commitment. We're excited to make it official!

DANIEL/TERESSA PIERCE--As pastors/elders of Grace, we want to thank the body for their overwhelming support for Daniel and Teressa last week through a love offering. God was glorified and the Pierces were blessed. Please join with us in praying for wisdom for the Pierces as they seek God's next step for them in ministry.

SERMONEUTICS--"Sermoneutics" is two things: 1) a made up word. 2) an upcoming men's study exploring the "why, how and what" of preaching. If you would like to refine your gifts in preaching/teaching, would like to explore whether God has called you to preach/teach, would like to know how to evaluate preaching/teaching, or would simply like to dive into some Scriptures with other men in order to grow closer to God...then this class if for you. We will meet every other Monday night starting this Monday night.

Men's Ministries March Madness Mayhem- Come watch Friday night's March Madness action at the church this Friday night at 7 pm. A sign up sheet is available in the narthex for those interested. ELDER LEADERSHIP--The elder team would like to present Marshall Gipe to the church body as one who desires to be an elder. While Scripture says it is an honorable thing to desire the office of an elder (1 Timothy 3:1), the chapter goes on to lay out very specific guidelines for elder leadership (3:1-7). We would encourage you to examine this passage (along with Titus 1 and 1 Peter 5, among others) and also Marshall’s testimony. As elders, we desire to know if you can affirm Marshall’s qualifications for elder leadership. Would you please consider these texts, examine Marshall’s life and then share your confirmations or concerns with a current elder?

SERMONEUTICS--"Sermoneutics" is two things: 1) a made up word. 2) an upcoming men's study exploring the "why, how and what" of preaching. If you would like to refine your gifts in preaching/teaching, would like to explore whether God has called you to preach/teach, would like to know how to evaluate preaching/teaching, or would simply like to dive into some Scriptures with other men in order to grow closer to God...then this class if for you. We will meet every other Monday night starting March 16th. For more information, see Danny or the table in the narthex (sign up is also on the table).

Just in case you are wondering....

Our website is down right now.

The staff elders cannot email anyone.

Your email to the staff elders will bounce back to you.

This is all further difficulties with our domain host allowing people to make it look like we were all selling pharmaceuticals. Hopefully, this is all simply the "storm before the calm."

And probably, this is just God reminding me to spend more time in the Word and less in email!

Received the following via email from Bob:

Dear Friends and Family,

Our Lord has been doing great things these past couple of months. January saw great faith expressed from the northern parts of the States. The Chapel from Buffalo, NY sent down, not one, but two medical teams. Each team included an evangelistic team as well. This group of believers has really caught the vision of our medical evangelism ministry here in the DR. Although we are trying to bring good medical care to the people here in the DR, our primary purpose is to bring the Glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ to the needy people here. We visited many new locations for our ministry. There are now multiple new church partners in and around San Pedro de Macoris that we will be ministering with in the future. These churches were very encouraged by the inclusion of spiritual ministry along with the physical ministry we are bringing.

Our long time friends from Antioch Baptist of WV also came and helped us open up some of these new ministry areas. They re-enforced our important ministry of encouraging the saints and reaching the lost for Jesus in towns and villages.

Steve and Jan Brazeau brought a small but powerful group of believers to minister with their dental/medical team in locations from Santo Domingo (the capital) to small villages in the eastern part of the country. Steve and Jan also bring a Spanish pastor who leads in evangelism every day. What a blessing to see the people respond to the straight forward preaching of the Word of God.

Grace Chapel from NC comes the same time every year. Their faithfulness brings healing to many through their surgical team and village medical team. Union University also partnered with the Brazeau's and Grace Chapel to make for a dynamic week of ministry. One day at the San Pedro Fire Dept.'s new building the chief of all the fireman in the DR showed up to thank us for our ministry both spiritually and physically. (I'm actually an honorary Lt. Coronel in the San Pedro Fire Dept.!!) Pastor Aby (another Score missionary here) and I attended the dedication of the building the first week of January with a couple of other members of The Chapel from Buffalo, NY. We were able to share the riches of Christ with the entire Fire Dept! Grace also brought 'a wandering evangelist' with them. This dear brother walked the streets and went house to house with a translator preaching Jesus.

All in all we saw 4,435 patients. This does not include approximately 40 surgeries at the hospital in La Romana! We have also been able to partner with 20 churches so far this year!! Spiritually we saw 802 persons profess faith in Christ. All with a local pastor to follow them up!

Aby Prado and family have come from Costa Rica to plant churches here with Score in the DR. Anna and I are teaming up with them to cooperate in his evangelistic efforts and draw crowds to preach to! Aby is pastoring our new bi-lingual church in Juan Dolio and I am teaching the English Bible Class.

Anna continues to give direction to the pharmacy and thus is an invaluable aid to me in clinic and ministry operations. She has also begun distance learning classes and is enjoying them immensely.

Praise the Lord for our ministry partners Tim and Evelyn Wolfe and their faithful ministry to the Lord here.

What a joy to see our Lord saving souls and building churches.

WELCOME MATT & KATI STEPHENS
It is our great joy to announce Matt and Kati Stephens' membership to Grace today. Matt and Kati have been a faithful part of Greenville Grace for quite some time, but it is a joy to "make it official" and we praise God for their family and for the joy of having them be a part of our family.

WOMENS STUDY--Women’s Study begins Thursday, February 19. Books need to be paid for and picked up.

WORSHIP WORKSHOP- On February 21, the Music Ministry will be providing a Worship Workshop for all those interested in musical worship. In the past, this time has been particularly directed at our music team members, but now is open to anyone in the church interested in learning about a Biblical basis for musical worship in the Scripture or how to better perform music in the church setting. Former Grace Music Intern Jeff Capps ( http://www.jeffcapps.com/) will also be coming to provide additional instruction. If interested, please fill out a registration form found at the table in the narthex and leave it in the offering plate before Sunday morning, February 15.

Youth District Bowling--Youth come join the fun at Timber Lanes in Clayton on Sunday, March 1 from 7-9pm. The cost is $5 per person for bowling and shoes. If you want to buy snacks and drinks, you will need to bring additional money. The theme is “Pick a Decade.” You can dress according to that decade.

WEEKEND TO REMEMBER--Another Family Life Conference is coming to Cincinnati this March 6-8. Many people in our church can vouch for the benefit of these conferences. Every marriage, regardless of its condition, can benefit from some intentional focus. We'd highly recommend you check out the table in the narthex to receive more information. Also, see Dan or Jeni Berger for information about a church discount.
