American Idol Adjustment

I know this blog is not intended as a location for my own personal commentary, but I wondered how many noticed:

I was shocked to hear "American Idol" was going to end their "Idol gives back" episode with Shout to the Lord.

They sang all the lyrics and changed no words...except the second word:

My Shepherd, My Savior
Lord there is none like You

The original lyrics are:

My JESUS, My Savior
Lord there is none like You

Question becomes:

1. Why would they do that?
2. What can WE learn from that?

Why would they do that? To be unoffensive, tolerant of which ever "god" anyone may choose to serve.

What can we learn from that? We must continue to seek the TRUTH, which can be found only in God's Word and in His Son. "Salvation is found in NO ONE else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."

We preach a crucified Messiah, to the religious a stumbling block and to the irreligious, foolishness. However, both the religious and irreligious have a desire to please God (which ever 'god' anyone may choose to serve).

I don't believe American Idol changed had the lyrics changed because they don't understand our message, but rather because they DO understand our message. They understand to the point of it being the thing that shuts them down. As k76 said, it offends them.

What can we learn? NEVER COMPROMISE! Our Savior, our Messiah, our Lord was crucified to purchase our redemption and I'm not ashamed of His death NOR my alliance with Him!

i completely agree with you both.

i think what struck me was the offense of His Name. Jesus is certainly implied in the song, even the term they used to replace His name is an unusual term for today.

applications?

--i praise God that He saw fit to make the name of Jesus unoffensive (and precious) to me. apart from His intervention, i would have stumbled of Jesus' name to.

--as a believer, i'm struck by how applicable 1 John is today. "whoever confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh..." hard to do if we won't say His name.

--as a preacher, it reminds me that it is not enough to preach about God. I must preach that Jesus Christ is God and was sent by the Father.
